Sotirios Gountas, PMP© possesses nearly 20 years of combined experience in public sector program management, disaster recovery relief programs, and community development both domestically and abroad including New York City, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Sudan and South Sudan, and Afghanistan. Organizations he has worked with in the past include the Governor’s Office of the State of New Jersey, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the United Nations, CARE and Relief International.

As a Disaster Recovery Manager with Hagerty Consulting, Sotirios supports the company’s project management efforts to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality professional recovery services. He has served as the Deputy Project Manager for the City of New York’s Hurricane Sandy FEMA Public Assistance (PA) program as well as for Puerto Rico’s Hurricane Maria FEMA Community Disaster Loan (CDL) Program. He also supports Hagerty’s internal operations to create effective project teams, tools, and systems.

In his spare time, Sotirios is an advisory board member at St. Ann, The Personal School in East Harlem, New York City; a pro bono business consultant with Net Impact’s Service Corps, and a Community Volunteer Liaison with the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey. He served as a volunteer project lead to manage disaster relief efforts in Missouri following the floods of Spring 2017 with the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). He is also currently enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice’s Executive Program in Social Impact Strategy, which he expects to complete in Fall 2018.

A travel enthusiast and linguaphile, Sotirios speaks fluent Greek, as well as conversational Spanish, Turkish, and Arabic. He has a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Villanova University. He is a certified Project Management Professional and lives in Jersey City, NJ.
