FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance

FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance

There are three grant programs under the aegis of FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA). The grants are allocated to qualifying mitigation activities, especially ones that reduce current losses and help prevent future damages.

  • The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program helps implement long-term hazard mitigation actions after a major disaster;
  • The Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program helps fund hazard mitigation planning on an annual basis;
  • The Flood Mitigation Assistance Program annually supports efforts to reduce or eliminate risk of flood damage to buildings that are insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) .

Hagerty works with all three FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs and has had great success using them to help clients. We are expert at identifying opportunities within a disaster area appropriate for hazard mitigation, and welcome the opportunity to rebuild facilities and incorporate resiliency measures, as appropriate, within every engagement.

As part of every recovery assignment, we make sure to maximize the amount of hazard mitigation funding we secure for our clients. Our professionals have had success working with FEMA on broad cost-effective mitigation measures, resulting in Hazard Mitigation Grant Proposal funds that in some cases exceed 100% of the repair cost offered through the Public Assistance Program. We make mitigation central to every recovery project by embedding hazard mitigation specialists to review Project Worksheets and ensure all possible opportunities to incorporate mitigation are maximized.
