FEMA Public Assistance

FEMA Public Assistance

Hagerty works with clients and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help clients recover from a disaster. We assist, guide, advise, and back clients up through every step of the FEMA Public Assistance process, including administering Public Assitance Programs on behalf of local governments, mitigation completion, and program closeout.  Our experience includes understanding how the suite of federal recovery programs facilitates a comprehensive recovery within a community.

Since 2001, Hagerty has worked with all levels of government including federal, state, tribal, and municipal entities to support recovery operations. Hagerty’s approach to the recovery process stresses developing effective communications and strong partnerships between applicants, the state, and FEMA. This approach minimizes the need for appeals, makes it possible to claim all eligible costs, and closes out the recovery in a timely and efficient manner.

Hagerty brings deep knowledge and understanding of the rules pertaining to federal grant applications. Once a jurisdiction qualifies for a Public Assistance program grant, Hagerty is in a unique position to help clients apply for the maximum amount allowable. Many of the professionals we work with are former FEMA officials, state directors of emergency management, and Public Assistance Officers (PAO). Our professionals understand how other FEMA programs, such as Section 404 and 406 Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, can be incorporated into a PA grant. Further, we understand when Community Development Block Grants-Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) can be leveraged to help fulfill local match requirements for FEMA Public Assistance.
