Brock Long

Executive Chairman

Brock Long, a former Director of Alabama’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) under Governor Bob Riley, has more than 16 years of experience assisting and supporting local, state, and federal governments with building robust emergency management and public health preparedness programs. As the Director of Alabama’s EMA, he served as the State Coordinating Officer for 14 disasters, including eight presidential-declared events. Most significantly, Brock developed Alabama’s response to the H1N1 influenza and served as the on-scene State Incident Commander for the Alabama Unified Command during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Brock’s past experience includes working as a FEMA Regional Hurricane Planner, a FEMA Response Team Leader, and a statewide school safety coordinator. He was invited to testify twice before the U.S. Congress regarding the process used by the nation in responding to, and recovering from, catastrophic events. Brock’s areas of expertise include strategic planning, exercise, evacuation, public safety, school safety, recovery management, and response logistics.

As Hagerty Consulting’s Executive Vice President, Brock provides strategic direction and leadership to the firm’s full complement of emergency management programs and professionals. He has served as Project Executive for more than 50 projects in all parts of the United States ranging from active threat scenario exercises with universities to designing complex multi-jurisdictional, all-hazard evacuation plans for major Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) designated jurisdictions.

He contributes as a thought leader in the emergency management community through the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) where he serves as its Private Sector Chairman. Brock’s opinion is often sought by media outlets to comment about natural and manmade disasters and he has been interviewed about emergency preparedness numerous times. Brock is a sought-after presenter at conferences, frequently being invited to deliver the keynote address. His ability to empathize and understand the politics of every situation makes him a persuasive and compelling advocate for clients.

Brock is a graduate of the prestigious Executive Leadership Program offered by the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School/Center for Homeland Defense and Security, as well as Appalachian State University for undergraduate and graduate school. He travels widely for Hagerty, but his home base is Hickory, North Carolina where he resides with his family.
