Evacuation Best Practice Guidance
Project Overview
The National Governors Association (NGA), the leading organization representing the nation’s governors, engaged Hagerty to develop a comprehensive Evacuation Best Practice Guide. This initiative aimed to enhance evacuation preparedness for large populations, ensuring more effective and coordinated responses before, during, and after disasters.
Understanding the Mission
The primary goal of the evacuation guide was to educate and empower governors with key frameworks, terminology, and legal standards. The guide aimed to strengthen evacuation preparedness and response capabilities across the country. Ultimately, these efforts would enable more informed decision-making during crises.
The Hagerty Approach
Hagerty worked closely with the NGA to create a thorough and detailed guide on evacuation planning. Our focus was on capturing best practices for all evacuation phases, including preparedness, mass care, and the community’s reentry after a disaster. We engaged stakeholders across all levels of government to incorporate a wide range of insights into the final document. As a result, the team produced a practical guide for various disaster scenarios.
Achieving Results
This collaborative effort led to the successful completion of the Governor’s Guide to Mass Evacuation. The guide was well-received and recognized for its comprehensive, actionable recommendations. It provides governors and emergency management officials with critical tools to improve evacuation strategies nationwide.
