The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Individual Assistance (IA) Programs provide support to individuals and families in the aftermath of a disaster. Hagerty helps our clients effectively work with FEMA IA Programs to maximize the benefit to disaster survivors in their communities.
OUR EXPERIENCE
Hagerty has more than a decade of experience managing FEMA IA Programs for clients. Our subject matter experts, disaster recovery professionals, and housing and human services specialists have hands-on experience implementing IA Programs following numerous significant disaster events. Hagerty helps clients understand FEMA IA Programs so they can request the activation of specific IA Programs needed in their communities, educate community members on available IA Programs, and advocate for disaster survivors.
Hagerty supports clients to utilize the full range of IA Programs to include:
- Mass Care and Emergency Support, including Transitional Shelter Assistance;
- Individual and Household Assistance, including financial assistance to households and direct housing programs;
- Disaster Case Management and Crisis Counseling;
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance;
- Disaster Legal Services; and
- Voluntary Agency Coordination.
Recent changes in the IA Program offer new opportunities for states, territories, and federally recognized tribes (STT), and Hagerty can help our clients to take advantage of these opportunities. For example, Section 1211 of the Disaster Recovery and Reform Act of 2018 authorizes FEMA to provide funding to STT to administer direct housing assistance. Hagerty has the programmatic and policy expertise to help STTs weigh the costs and benefits of taking on such a mission, understand the program requirements, and, if appropriate, develop and implement an effective disaster housing plan.
Hagerty also has expertise leading community recovery operations and with other major federal programs that support individuals and families after disaster, including the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR).
Hagerty has had tremendous success advocating for survivors of major disasters including following 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and Hurricane Sandy. Read about those successes here and here. We can help you benefit from FEMA IA Programs, too.
