According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s National Centers for Environmental Information, the United States (US) has observed 12 weather and climate disasters so far this year, of which each experienced losses exceeding $1 billion and collectively resulted in 100 casualties. Earlier this month, Hagerty’s Deputy Director of Recovery, Ari Renoni, joined National Public Radio (NPR)’s Marketplace to share his thoughts on disaster relief funding and the impacts of an increasing climate crisis on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) rapidly depleting budget.
