Earlier this month, the inaugural selectees for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) pre-disaster mitigation grant program were announced and, notably, this cycle, only two of the competitive projects selected by FEMA were designated as small and impoverished communities.

In this NBC News article, Hagerty’s Director of Mitigation, Amelia Muccio, discusses her thoughts on the challenges small and impoverished communities face when applying for BRIC funding as well as what changes could be made to the program to make it more accessible for historically disadvantaged jurisdictions seeking to apply.
