Hagerty Mention: The New York Times

Our changing climate continues to fuel disasters of increasing frequency and magnitude, and federal government programs are struggling to keep up with the impacts – particularly when it comes to post-disaster housing.

Hagerty’s Executive Chairman and former FEMA Administrator, Brock Long, highlights the value of adjusting current federal programs and policies to be more survivor-centric; for example, allowing block grant funding to repair survivor’s homes after a disaster. Such a shift would likely help those impacted retain home ownership and equity, while also helping bridge the apparent gap between sheltering and more permanent housing solutions.
