Harvey Makes Second Landfall, Emergency Response Efforts Underway

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2017 AS OF 10:00 AM CDT

Tropical Harvey made a second landfall in Louisiana early this morning. Southeast Texas continues to battle devastating flood waters with thousands of citizens displaced and seeking emergency sheltering, with FEMA stating this morning that, “over 195,000 registrations of individuals asking for assistance.” FEMA’s briefing can be viewed in the video below:

Flash floods pose threats to counties in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana as Harvey continues to progress inland. During and after flooding, consider your health and safety. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published a brief list of tips below.

Here’s the breakdown of public advisories from NOAA’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) 10:00 AM CDT, August 27, 2017 Update:

  • A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Holly Beach, Louisiana to Morgan City, Louisiana;
  • A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Sabine Pass, Texas to west of Holly Beach, Louisiana;
  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for East of High Island, Texas to Grand Isle, Louisiana.
